Journalism: Interscholastic League Press Conference

Code of Ethics

  • All progress is ultimately based upon knowledge and understanding. The evolution of humanity toward universal awareness can best be served by the free and open expression of information and ideas.

  • Since truth is the basis for all education, we pledge to give our full strength to the spread of truth to all without our own biases and without any outside distortion through timidity, fear or avarice.

  • Talent without responsible direction is talent without virtue; therefore, we dedicate ourselves to the continuing task of perfecting our communication skills, those paramount arts essential to the progress of mankind.

  • Freedom of the press is more than a right to be exercised as a journalist. The First Amendment of the United States Constitution is confirmation of the right of a free people to be informed and is a charge to the press to insure the world community of an informed citizen.

We, of the Interscholastic League Press Conference, accept this essential duty proudly and dedicate ourselves to these ends.
