Academics – Academics Rule Changes for 2008-2009

The following changes have been approved by the UIL Legislative Council and Texas Commissioner of Education and take effect for the 2008-2009 school year. Refer to the Constitution & Contest Rules for official wording.

HIGH SCHOOL

  • When the district Cross-Examination Debate format is preliminary rounds leading to an elimination bracket, all undefeated debaters must be placed on the elimination bracket.

  • When the district Lincoln-Douglas Debate format is preliminary rounds leading to an elimination bracket, all undefeated debaters must be placed on the elimination bracket.

  • The full range of penalties may apply, including suspension from the One-Act Play Contest for the following year, if a school fails to participate in the One-Act Play Contest after making an official entry. Schools may file a written report to the State Executive Committee stating their reasons for withdrawal. Participation shall be defined as a performance of an approved script with a running time of not less than eighteen minutes. C&CR Section 1033 (b)(6)(B).

MIDDLE SCHOOL/JUNIOR HIGH

  • There are no rule changes in the A+ program for grades 2-8.
