Meet Information
Certification: The results from your Regional Meet serve as our entry certification. If you are unable to participate in the State Meet, have your coach notify the UIL office immediately (Beverly Stein 512-471-5883) and fax a letter on your school letterhead listing the competitor and event (fax number 512-471-6589). The UIL will contact the next qualifying participant.
Scratching: Any athlete scratched from an event should be reported to the UIL Marshal located at the north end of the stadium at the bottom of the stairs (next to the awards stand).
Online Relay Team Certification: State qualified relays must go to the UIL website under Track & Field and list six (6) relay names for each relay by Tuesday, May 26 (or go to this link - www.uil.utexas.edu/db/track_relay_teaminfo.lasso). These names will be listed in the Track and Field Championship Program. Any name changes made after this date, will not be listed in the program.
Relay Teams: In relay events, six individuals may be listed as entries, any four of who may compete.
- Being listed as a relay member does not count as an event unless the individual actually runs in the event.
- It is not necessary to use the same four runners as were used in the regional meet.
- If fewer than six runners are listed as members of a relay, or changes need to be made in relay teams, these entries may be made no later than 60 minutes before the start of the running events for your conference in the UIL computer building at the north end of the stadium. No additions or changes in relay personnel may be made after the one hour pre-meet deadline.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct: During the State Track and Field Meet, National Federation Track and Field Rules regarding unsportsmanlike conduct will be enforced. Be sure and inform your contestants that acts such as the ones listed below will be considered unsportsmanlike conduct.
- refusal to take places on the awards stand;

- use of profanity;
- addressing an official disrespectfully;
- displaying any actions which bring discredit to the individual or their school
The penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct is disqualification in the event and further participation in the meet. In the event that such acts occur following the event, the medal will go to the next place winner in the event.
High Jump, Long Jump, Pole Vault, and Triple Jump Coaches: Field Event competitors report directly to the event site. Coaches and athletes will enter the field at the northwest corner of the track. Competitors and officials only will be permitted on the track in their field event areas. Exception: High Jump coaches will have a designated coaches box directly under the scoreboard.
Shot, Discus, Poles for Vaulting, and Starting Blocks:
- Discus and Shot Put: Discus and shot will be weighed, inspected and marked (if within legal specifications) at the UIL weigh-in station located at Myers Stadium (southeast corner of field) at least one hour prior to the assigned event time.
- Pole Vault: Each contestant will be weighed at the time of their event at the pole vault pit. A manufacturer's label must be visible on each competitor?Äôs pole.
- Starting Blocks: Personal starting blocks may be used if within legal specifications. Starting blocks may have 1/4" spike on the bottom.
Track Markings: The 3200 and 1600-meter runs will be from a curved (waterfall) start. Rule 5-3-7 of the National Federation Track and Field Rule Book states that for races around one or more curves which are not run in lanes, a curved starting line may be used so that each competitor will run the same distance going into the first curve. Participants should be advised about the waterfall starting procedure because it is different from the usual half stagger which breaks at the pole after the first curve.
The 800-meter run will be run from the usual half stagger (green). The 4 x 400 relay (1600-meter relay) will be run from a one and a half stagger (blue). The 400-meter dash and 400-meter relay will be run from a full stagger (yellow). The 800-meter relay will be run with a double stagger (same lane from start to finish). First and second exchange is green and third exchange is yellow.
Use of Special Marks: Tennis balls, tape or any flat rubber marker may be used to mark the track. Nothing may be used that marks the track surface or presents a hazard to runners. All marking devices must be removed after the race.
Uniforms: Team members shall wear the school uniform. A competitor must be in the proper track uniform and wearing the assigned contestant number. Each competitors uniform shall consist of a full-length track jersey (singlet). A singlet is defined as a school issued jersey. The jersey may be long-sleeved, short-sleeved or tank style. A t-shirt is not considered to be a jersey. Shirts with cut-off sleeves are prohibited. Bare midriff tops are not acceptable. The jersey (singlet) must hang below or be tucked into the waistband of the shorts or briefs when the competitors is standing erect.
The track and field uniform consists of a school issued jersey and shorts, which are not objectionable, and shoes, which may be supplied by the contestant. Exception: If shorts are worn over a body suit, the body suit does not have to be a single color, but must be the same for all members of a relay team. Any other visible apparel must be a single color and worn under the uniform jersey and shorts.
In relay races each team member shall wear the same color and design school uniform (jersey and trunks). When other apparel is worn under the jersey or shorts by more than one relay team member, that apparel must be the same color for all of the relay team members wearing the extra clothing.
No jewelry or objectionable headwear may be worn by a contestant. A contestant who competes with an illegal uniform or is charged with unacceptable conduct shall be disqualified from that event if objectionable material is not removed. Removal of objectionable items should not delay the start of any event.
