2005-06 National Federation Volleyball Libero Position |
The UIL has adopted the Libero position for all levels of play (including junior high) beginning with the 2005 season. The Libero is a player who is limited to playing in a back row position.
The Libero must:
- Be designated on the line-up sheet at the beginning of each game (may be a different player in each game).
- Wear a shirt, which may differ in style from her teammates, but must have a number placed in accordance with National Federation rules and be of a color which contrasts with the rest of that team's uniforms. The number on the jersey should be the same as the player's regular number.
- Have unlimited entries into the game and not be counted as a substitute.
- Enter the court between the attack line and the end line.
- Replace any player in a back row position (except the actual server).
- Stay in the game for one rally before being replaced.
- Be replaced by the player whom she replaced (a substitution may follow a replacement if the coach wants a different player in the game).
- Enter the game during a dead ball or after the initial line-up check.
The Libero may not:
- Serve
- Block or attempt to block
- Complete an attack hit from anywhere on or off the court if, at the moment of contact, the ball is entirely above the top of the net.
- Set the ball with an overhead finger pass, while on or in front of the attack line, to a teammate who attacks the ball while it is entirely above the top of the net.
- Replace a disqualified teammate.
The Libero may:
- Be a team captain.
- Be used as an exceptional subsitute for an injured player if no other legal substitutes are available.
