How to Use the Search Features of the PML Database

Below is a list of the searchable fields you will find on the Search PML Database page and a description of how to enter information in each.

UIL ID
In this field you can retrieve content from a specific list or specific title depending on the characters you enter. For example entering 202 will retrieve the entire flute list. Entering 200-1, 200-2 or 200-3 will limit the search to Class 1, Class 2 or Class 3. Entering the entire unique number (i.e. 202-1-12345) for a selection will retrieve that single title.

TITLE
If you know the exact title for a selection you can enter it in this field and retrieve that selection.

ARRANGER

If you enter the last name of an arranger in this field it will pull up all titles that have that name listed as an arranger. If you want to further limit your search you can select Band, Orchestra or Vocal at the top of the page to search a specific performance area.

COMPOSER
This field functions in exactly the same fashion as the ARRANGER page.

PUBLISHER
Entering the abbreviation of a publisher in this field preceded by an equal sign (example "Publisher: =CFP") will retrieve all titles listed by that specific publisher. Again you can limit your search to Band, Orchestra or Vocal by using the buttons at the top of the page. Clicking on "key to publishers" will give you the list of abbreviations that are used for publisher names. For example C.F. Peters will be listed as CFP.

EVENT NAME

This field features a drop down menu that will display all Band, Orchestra and Vocal Events. You will find piano and guitar under all three lists.

SPECIFICATIONS

The searches here are almost limitless. For example limit the search to Class I Percussion Ensembles using the fields above and then enter marimba in the specifications field. The search will result in a list of all Class I Percussion Ensembles that require marimba. Or, limit the search to Class I Madrigals using the fields above and then enter SSATB in specifications. This will give you a list of all Class I Madrigals with that voicing.

DETAIL PAGE
Once you have identified a title and it appears on your screen you can click on the title and it will pull up a detail page that gives all specifics regarding that selection.

SORTING LIST BY PREFERENCES
Once you are viewing a list you can resort it as you prefer. Click on the word Title at the top of that column and the list will resort in alphabetical order by title. Click on the word Composer at the top of that column and it will resort alphabetically by composer and so on.

HARD COPIES AVAILABLE
Hard copies of the band, orchestra and vocal list are available from the state UIL office upon request at $15.00 per section. Use the Music Materials Order Form.

SUBSTITUTION OF UNLISTED EDITIONS FOR SELECTIONS IN THE PML
Any unabridged edition by a current copyright holder of a selection appearing in the Prescribed Music List may be substituted. The director of the performing organization shall be responsible for providing verification that the substitute edition is unabridged.
