UIL - University Interscholastic League

A Service of the University Interscholastic League

This school year, the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation will disburse over $1 million in scholarships to more than 500 students. If you are interested in becoming a scholarship donor, please remember that there are no overhead costs associated with the program, 100% of donated money is used for scholarships.

To be eligible to apply for a TILF scholarship, students must have participated in a UIL Academic State Meet during their high school career. Participation in Athletic or Music contests does not qualify a student to apply for a TILF scholarship. Qualifying contests are as follows:

Accounting, Calculator Applications, Computer Applications, Computer Science, Current Issues and Events, Debate (Cross-Examination* & Lincoln-Douglas), Journalism (Editorial Writing, Feature Writing, Headline Writing & News Writing), Literary Criticism, Mathematics, Number Sense, One-Act Play, Ready Writing, Science, Social Studies, Speech (Prose Interpretation, Poetry Interpretation, Informative Speaking & Persuasive Speaking) and Spelling & Vocabulary.
Special Note: *Only Cross-Examination Debate State Meet competitors advancing to the second day elimination rounds as one of the top 16 teams may apply. Do not list first day CX competition on page one of the application.

Below is the criterion our board members and donors use for scholarship selections, but it’s important to note that participating or even placing first in a UIL academic event does not automatically qualify a student, it just makes them eligible to apply. Consideration is based partly, though not entirely on the following factors:

  1. Successful academic performance demonstrated by high grade point average and rank in high school graduating class;
  2. Need for financial assistance;
  3. High college entrance scores;
  4. Successful participation in UIL academic competition and;
  5. Community involvement.
