A Service of the University Interscholastic League |
Introduction
Yesterday
Over $22 million, thats how much the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation has given since 1954 to more than 16,000 Texas high school students who have competed in the UIL Academic State Meet.
Rodney J. Kidd, former UIL Director and founder of TILF planted the idea of giving scholarships to the academically talented when there were not many scholarships available to the academically talented. Through 1959, records indicate that 13 students had received one year, $50 and $100 scholarships, with a total value under $1,000.
Today
During a typical academic year, TILF will disburse more than $1 million to more than 600 students attending colleges and universities throughout Texas. TILF received nearly 700 applications in 2007 and awarded 377 new and renewed 267 scholarships.
The TILF has over $8 million in endowed funds and receives direct scholarship grants each year of more than $800,000 from foundations, individuals and corporate sponsors throughout the state. TILF anticipates disbursing over $1 million during the 2008-2009 academic year.
Tomorrow
The TILF Board of Directors and staff are dedicated to finding more scholarship money for the TILF Scholarship Program.
Is there someone you would like to honor with a TILF Scholarhip?
Contact Bailey Marshall, TILF Executive Director, or Brenda Baxendale, TILF Scholarship Coordinator at (512) 232-4937.
We will be happy to discuss the program with you. You may set up an endowment which will provide scholarships in perpetuity, or provide annual funding. You may elect to provide an honorary or memorial scholarship for one year only. Note that 100% of the money you donate will be used for the scholarships you designate.
