Scholarships

To be eligible to apply for a TILF scholarship, students must have participated in a UIL Academic State Meet during their high school career. Participation in Athletic or Music contests does not qualify a student to apply for a TILF scholarship.

Qualifying contests are as follows:

Accounting, Calculator Applications, Computer Applications, Computer Science, Current Issues and Events, Debate (Cross-Examination* & Lincoln-Douglas), Journalism (Editorial Writing, Feature Writing, Headline Writing & News Writing), Literary Criticism, Mathematics, Number Sense, One-Act Play, Ready Writing, Science, Social Studies, Speech (Prose Interpretation, Poetry Interpretation, Informative Speaking & Persuasive Speaking) and Spelling & Vocabulary.
Special Note: *Only Cross-Examination Debate State Meet competitors advancing to the second day elimination rounds as one of the top 16 teams may apply. Do not list first day CX competition on page one of the application.

All applicants must meet the main scholarship criteria and should also consider any additional requirements listed by the following individual donors.

Abell-Hanger Foundation
Awards of $8,000 each, payable $2,000 each semester of the first two years.
Applicants must attend a state supported, fully accredited, four-year college or university.
Abell-Hanger Foundation Nursing Awards
Awards of $8,000 each, payable $2,000 each semester of the first two years.
For students who plan to major in nursing. Applicants must attend a state supported, fully accredited, four-year college or university.
Accounting Education Foundation of the Texas Society of CPAs
5 awards of $5,000 each, payable $500 each semester for five years.*
Applicants must major in accounting, maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, and attend in good standing one of the Texas universities that participate in the Accounting Education Foundation of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, Inc., programs, as listed on Schools Specified by Donors (list also appears on page four of the TILF application). *When a recipient completes undergraduate studies in four years or less, he/she may continue to receive the Accounting Careers Scholarship while in graduate accounting studies. Five year accounting programs are also funded for five years.
Leta Andrews Scholarship
Sponsored by Whataburger Inc. & Southwest Shootout Inc.
Award of $1,000, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Applicants must have competed in Girl's High School Varsity Basketball.
ASW Enterprises Scholarship
Award of $2,000, payable $1000 each semester of the first year.
For contestants in the UIL Spelling and Vocabulary contest.

Steve Barton "Achieving The Dream" Endowed Scholarship
Established and sponsored by Maria Candil, close friend of Steve Barton
Award of $3000 each, payable $1500 each semester of the first year.
Applicants must have competed in OAP and should major in Theatre. Preference will be given to applicants with strong combination of skills in singing, dancing, concert piano, directing, and scenic, costume and publicity design.
John & Brenda Baxendale Scholarship
Award of $1,000 each, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Preference will be given to first generation college students.
Henry Beckman Memorial
Awards of $1,000 each, payable $500 each semester of their freshman year.
High school seniors in the upper 25 percent of their graduating classes may apply. Recipients must attend The University of Texas at Austin and major in computer sciences, engineering, or natural sciences.
Roy Bedichek Memorial
Award of $1,000, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Applicants must attend the University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Charles and Debbie Breithaupt Scholarship

Awards of $1,000 each, payable $500 each semester of the first year.

Annual awards of up to $3,000 each, payable $1500 each semester, with possible renewal.
For students from Cochran, Hockley, Lubbock or Terry counties. Preference will be given to first generation college students.
The Campbell Foundation of Abilene
Awards of $1,000 each, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
William L. Chapman Memorial
Established and sponsored by Walter R. Long Jr., longtime friend of Mr. and Mrs. Chapman.
Award of $500 each, payable $250 each semester of the first year.
Applicants must be from Karnes County and attend one of the following high schools: Karnes City, Falls City, Kenedy, or Runge. Applicants must attend a four-year state supported college or university. Recipients must maintain a minimum 2.5 college grade point average.
The Clark Foundation
Awards of $1,000 each, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Louise P. and Joe B. Cook Memorial Scholarship Fund
8 awards of $3,700 each, payable $500 each semester of the first year, and $450 per semester for each of the next three years.
For contestants in Accounting, Calculator Applications, Computer Science, Debate, Mathematics, Number Sense, Ready Writing, Science, Informative and Persuasive Speaking, or Spelling & Vocabulary. Students also participating in the UIL State Solo-Ensemble Contest will be given special consideration. Applicants must attend an accredited four-year college or university.

Award of $1000 each, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Applicants must have made a division rating of I or II in a solo performance at the UIL State Solo Contest. Preference will be given to applicants majoring in music with plans to enter the teaching profession.
H-E-B Pharmacy Scholarship
Award of $1,000, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Preference will be given to applicants who declare their intent to enter the pharmacy profession with plans to practice in an area serviced by an H-E-B Pharmacy.
Dr. Norman Hackerman Memorial Scholarship
Established and sponsored by family, friends, and colleagues for his many years of service on The Texas Interscholastic League Foundation's Board of Directors.
Award of $1,000, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Applicant must attend The University of Texas at Austin and declare a major in chemistry or biochemistry.
Dr. Max R. Haddick Memorial Journalism Scholarship
Awards of $500, payable $250 each semester of the first year.

Award of $12,000, payable $1,500/semester, renewable for four years.
Applicants must have an SAT I/ACT score of 1000/22 or above, complete 15 hours per semester in college and maintain a minimum 3.0 college grade point average.

Applicants must rank in the top 25% of their graduating class and must attend a state supported fully accredited four-year college or university. Preference will be given to applicants from Orange, Sabine, Newton and Hardin counties.
The Meadows Foundation
Awards of $4,000 each, payable $500 each semester for four years.
For contestants in Ready Writing. Applicants must attend an accredited four-year college or university. Recipients must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
The Moody Foundation
Awards of $4,000 each, payable $500 each semester for four years.
Keitha Morris Memorial Award
$1,000 annual award, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
For Outstanding Actress in the Region which White Deer HS is scheduled to compete in the One-Act Play Contest.
Robert Mueller Memorial Scholarship
$1,000 annual award, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Preference is given to The University of Texas at Austin applicants with accounting or business honors majors.
Gondal & Sandra Mullenex Scholarship
$1,000 annual award, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Preference will be given to applicants from 1A or 2A conferences and for contestants who compete in Prose or Poetry.
Lynn and Pat Murray Scholarship
$1,000 annual award, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Preference is given to The UIL State One-Act Play Contests, but all UIL State Meet participants are eligible. Candidates must attend The University of Texas at Austin and major in the Theatre Teacher Training. Recipient must plan to pursue a career in theatre as a theatre arts teacher in public schools or colleges.
The Mike A. Myers Foundation Scholarships
Awards of $2,000, payable $1,000 each semester of the first year, with possible renewal.
Applicants must attend an accredited four-year college or university in the state of Texas. Recipients must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

Maxine Owen Memorial Scholarship
Established and sponsored by Dan Owen and family, in loving memory of wife and mother. Dan Owen retired as Superintendent for the Holliday ISD and also provided 10 years of service (1984-1994) to the UIL Legislative Council.
Award of $500, payable $250 each semester of the first year.
For students enrolled in either the Holliday or Jacksboro School Districts. Candidate must also be pursuing a career in public education.
Alvin and Lucy Owsley Foundation
Award of $1,000, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Panhandle Chapter of TSCPA Scholarships
5 awards of $2,500, payable $250 each semester for up to five years.
For the top five scorers in the Accounting Contest from the schools within the 25 counties that comprise the geographic area of the Panhandle Chapter of the TSCPA. Named recipients must enroll full time as an accounting major and maintain a minimum 3.0 college grade point average. The scholarship is limited to one per student.
Dr. Nelson Gray Patrick Memorial Music Scholarship
$1,000 annual award, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Applicants must have made a division rating of I or II in a solo performance at the UIL State Solo Contest. Preference will be given to applicants majoring in music.

Red Oak Foundation
Three awards of $4,800, payable $600 each semester for four years.
For contestants in any UIL academic event who declare the intention to teach in the public school system in Texas. Recipients must show a financial need and maintain a 2.75 GPA while taking at least 12 hours each semester at a state supported four-year university in Texas, or Texas Wesleyan University. Applicants must complete the Statement for The Red Oak Foundation Scholarship on the application.
Bobby Richardson Memorial Scholarship
$1,000 annual award, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Applicant must have lettered in a varsity sport in high school and must attend Texas A&M University, College Station.
Carolyn and Dan Scott Scholarship
Award of $1,000 each, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Applicant must attend The University of Texas at Austin.
T. H. Shelby Memorial
Awards of $1,000 each, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Applicants must attend The University of Texas at Austin. Funds provided by friends and family in memory of T. H. Shelby.

The Welch Foundation
20 awards of $14,000 each, payable $1,750 each semester for four years.
Applicants may attend any of the Texas colleges or universities approved by The Welch Foundation as listed on Schools Specified by Donors (list also appears on page four of the TILF application). Applicants must major in chemistry, biochemistry or chemical engineering and be willing to engage in chemical research at the graduate level. Recipients must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. Dorothy Sue Whited Memorial Scholarship
Award of $1,000, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
For contestants in the UIL Speech and Debate contests. Recipients must attend UT Austin and be enrolled in the business or engineering schools.
Dr. Rhea H. Williams Memorial
Awards of $1,000, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
Recipients must attend The University of Texas at Austin.
Lola Wright Foundation
Awards of $1,000 each, payable $500 each semester of the first year.

Angelo State University
Angelo State University awards one-year UIL Scholarships to first place seniors who win at the Region I, 4A UIL academic competition and attend Angelo State. Those senior regional winners who win the state competition will receive another $1,000 UIL Scholarship. Seniors ranking in the top 15% with an ACT/SAT 1 score of 25/1140 or more may apply for one of over 300 Carr Academic Scholarships available annually to entering freshmen. Texas Tech University
6 TTU-UIL Leadership Scholarships.
Texas Tech University awards up to six one-year University Interscholastic League Leadership Scholarships of $700 to participants of selected Region 1 University Interscholastic League events hosted by the University Interscholastic League office at Texas Tech University. Texas Woman's University

Tyler Junior College
